Siwinski Swings for 848

Greece - Arcadia senior Jason Siwinski, 17, accomplished two bowling goals in one series Saturday, rolling a 300 game and breaking the Rochester USBC record with an 848 series.

Siwinski, competing for AMF Dewey Garden Lanes, opened play in the scratch travel league at AMF Empire Lanes with his perfect game, followed by 269 and 279 games.

His 848 total beat the city record by a pin. It was held by his Dewey teammate Mark Scuderi, who wasn't on hand Saturday.

Siwinski, a right-hander, also competes for Arcadia, but has been bowling for only three years.

He was nervous in the 10th frame of his 300 game, although he's had four perfect games in practice. "I threw it outside in the first frame of the second game,' he said. But he converted the spare before rolling eight more strikes in a row.

After Game 2, Siwinski said "I began thinking about 800." He opened with nine in a row in the final game, converted a 7-pin and struck out for his 848. He had no idea he was close to a city record however.

Siwinski averages 206 in the travel league and 219 for Arcadia, which is in first place with a 46-2 record this season.

He used a Hammer Big Blue bowling ball, drilled by Brad Buckert at Begin'rs to Pro's.

What Mom (Sally Siwinski) Said...

"Well, when Jason does it.... he does it big. Jason bowled his 5th 300 game during his travel league today. The best part, it was finally a sanctioned 300 game.

Needless to say we are very proud and he is flying pretty high. To top it off, he broke the Rochester youth high series. Jason started the three game series off with his 300 game. Following it up with a 269 and a 279 game. He needed the 279 in his third game to break the Rochester youth record which was 847. Jason took the record by one pin, with an 848 series. He was not aware that he was attempting to break the record, just that he would have an 800 series, so that was a bonus for him as well.

Jason was pretty excited after a phone interview with the Democrat & Chronicle Saturday evening. (Another first for him) Not bad for only bowling for three years. Jason will be receiving a ring for his 300 game. Very Cool."
